The Los Angeles Times printed an article on Vernon Wells titled "Brush With Greatness". Major league team owners and players order his art. Not bad for an artist that never took a formal art class and discovered he had a marketable talent only by accident.
World Class Artist Vernon Wells has agreed to be Artium's guest speaker January 16.
He has been doing original paintings for pro athletes for more than 30 years. More than 1,200 players have commissioned him to paint for them. Residing in Texas, he is commissioned by sports figures across the country, and in all levels of competition, to recreate their special achievements or personal wishes. For example, when the Texas Rangers retired Adrian Beltre's Jersey #29, Vernon Wells was commissioned by the team to create an amazing piece of art for Adrian. "Ballers" comprise the majority of his clients but he has painted other pro athletes like Mohammed Ali.IHis renderings are all done by hand yet are so realistic and detailed that it is difficult to tell them from photographs. His son, Vernon Wells III, is a major league player. His work is at vwellsart.com.
