September 2022 Presentation
Charles Kennedy graduated from UTA with a BS degree in Data Processing and Financial Management in 1974. He worked for 22 years in UTA's Data Processing department and for 12 years with Charles Schwab Corporation.During his time at UTA professor emeritus Dr. William Pyburn encouraged Charles Kennedy to paint and draw as much as possible. In the early 1990's Charles took painting instructions from Fort Worth artist Dennis Blagg. Since then, he has been painting landforms, atmospheres and topography of the Southwest. His landscapes have breathtakingly beautiful details. Another subject in his artwork is seascapes and surprisingly insects. Charles has traveled to Big Bend Texas at least fifty times gathering inspiration for his paintings. He typically travels there twice a year. His private collection includes some of his original large paintings, but in recent years he mainly focuses on smaller pieces painted in oil on watercolor paper that has coats of gesso on both sides of the paper. Smaller pieces on paper are easy to store and transport to and from plein air outings. He also does some of his work in the large art studio he built in 1989 in his Arlington backyard. Currently he has a one thousand square inch landscape of Big Bend in the works at his studio. Over the years Charles has been featured in numerous art shows and galleries in Texas. Arlington Art Museum, Gallery 414, Templeton Art Space, and Bosque Conservatory in Clifton, Texas are a few of the locations he has shown his work.
